Color Palette
I chose to develop my color palette based on one of the stain glass windows in the church. For a more ready to wear collection i decided to expand my color range to include more colors, i chose these colors in particular as they work together as a whole and they work together in smaller groups such as the (green, blue, purple) or (cream, gold, red) or (purple, cream, gold). They also suit my market group, a person who is outgoing and confident, not afraid to wear bold color.

IMAGE RESEARCH
HATS
I want to include hats as part of my signature for my garments. For reasons include the fact that they are a great accessory. Also the idea came form the hat/veil that my nana wore on her wedding day. They also suit my style of garment with the the theme being sunday best and outerwear. I don't want the hats to be overpowering though but rather to compliment the outfits.
MARC JACOBS R.T.W - FALL 2012
RESEARCH
This collection is very odd but theres something about it that i find interesting. First of all, some of the patterns i find very strange and different especially in the first few outfits, i don't feel they suit the outfit or the style of garment. I do however like most of the other fabric and patterns used, the look very appealing and compliment the style of garment, such as the last four outfits. I like the use of contrasting colors also, like blacks and dark grays mixed with pale grey and creams. One of the main aspects about this collection i find very eye-catching is the exaggerating of certain parts of the body. In this case its the hips and shoulders creating a hour glass silhouette. I also like the oversized hats and scarf, on top of everything else it creates this sense of layering which is very effective. I want to use hats and maybe scarfs as my signature piece in each garment although not tot he extreme of theres ones with the fur.
DKNY R.T.W - FALL 2008
RESEARCH
This collection is very different to what i have been looking at in the sense that it has more of casual feel to it. It consists of a lot of bright colors and a range of different styled coats some with more of a formal element to them than others. I don't no if the garments work together as a collection apart form the fact that they all involve a coat, except for the last one. As separates however the garments look really cool. The last outfit is a bit different from the rest of them but still has a very good visual appeal. The peach against the satin black looks really affective. Also the exaggerated neck tie makes the garment look more complete.
DONNA KAREN R.T.W - FALL 2009
RESEARCH
I very much love the overall aesthetic appeal of this collection. The use of dark fabrics, texture and a tailored garments work well together. I also like the occasional use of bright fabrics in the jackets as it breaks up the collection but dose not disrupt the visual flow. I like the mix of long and short coats and the accentuated shoulders, i feel that they carry the whole look. The way the fur has been added to the sleeves of the garments is very interesting but looks very effective as it suits the outfit as a whole.
MIUMIU R.T.W - FALL 2012
RESEARCH
I like this collection becasue of the simplistic design of the garments which create a sense of sophistication, something i want to include in my collection. In the first two images i like the use of bright colors in contrast with darker tones and patterns, the second image has what looks like a lot going on in one outfit but with yet again a simple design the pattern then doesn't become to overpowering and is balanced out. The third images is similar to the first two but with more neutral tones. The light tobacco brown suit with the blouse that has gold sleeves and print top creates a very aesthetically appealing outfit that is easygoing on the eye. Another aspect to these garments in the first and third outfit is that it has a cape like addition to the jacket that is different but looks quite unique and goes well with my concept.
My Market Group
The market group i am aiming me collection towards the high end of the mid-market. More specifically; a young, business women who is willing to spend money on good quality clothes. She is sophisticated yet with a fashionable sense. I would see this person to be living in the city such as NYC. She would wear bright fun colors in contrast with neutral tones and patterns. her style is eccentric and outgoing, layering is the key in her look with soft, light fabrics on the inner layers and thicker heavier fabrics on the outer layers.

Market Research Report
LOW MARKET: The low-end market consists of garments that are mass-produced for minimal cost. Using the cheapest sourced materials, the cheapest and quickest methods of construction and easiest finishing’s. The consumers of these products are people who are not willing or able to spend large amounts on garments. Such places that are considered low-end market stores include:
• Supre
• Glassons
• JayJays
• The warehouse
• Susans
A lot of low-end market clothing relates to ‘fast fashion’ which means the quickest manufacturing time for trends to go form the catwalk to the shop floor fro mainstream consumers. Materials commonly used in construction of low end products include cotton, acrylic, polyester and viscose. Typical construction methods in finishing a garment include over-locked seams, compared to bound seams you would find on mid/high market garments.
Because of the ability to mass-produce garments at minimal cost, there are a wider range of colors available. For the mass production of low market garments they are almost 100% of the time made in china as the cost of construction pre garment is minimal.
MID MARKET: Middle market consumers are people who would pay a decent amount for a garment but not and extreme amount so it is neither cheap nor expensive. The construction methods used to produce these garments are a little more cost worthy but they create a longer life span for the garment. Methods include neater seaming and finishing’s such as bound hemlines and necklines, linings in garment such as jackets and coats. Topstitching and decorative stitching are used to make a garment more appealing. You start to see the displays of garments on racks are neater and often color coordinated for the trends of the season. Stores you would often associate as midmarket are:
• Area 51
• Cue
• Max
• Country Road
• Witchery
More attention is payed to the finishing touches on garments such as toggles on zips, especially the sewing, threads are cut and no loose threads are left on the garment, there is also more attention towards the pressing of garments, correctly pressed and hung to make the garment look better on the clothes rack. Not so many colors are available however in mid-market production of garments. You also begin to see the use of more expensive fabrics such as silk and 100% cotton and polyester instead of cotton and polyester blends. The manufacturing of midmarket garments is often closer to the origin of the designer, such as New Zealand made instead of made in china.
HIGH END MARKET: The high-end market refers to consumers who are willing to pay large amounts for garments. People who would spend money for luxury items or one off products, the idea of having something that many people wont have, been seen in a designer outfit and the importance or need for importance that this visage create. No expense is speared in the construction of the garments; the best materials are sourced for each look. The sewing techniques that are used are appropriate for each fabric and are impeccably sewn. Finishing’s used include bound seams, topstitching; similar to mid-market finishing’s but implemented more often on the garments. Very few colors are produced in each garment. The care label for each garment becomes more precise including such things as dry flat out of sun, cover buttons in dry cleaning, reshape while damp. The shops that would be considered high-end market are:
• Zambezi
• Karen Walker
• Kate Sylvester
• World
• Alexandra Owen
• Unity
• Good as Gold
• Starfish
